Cross Connection & Backflow

Cross-Connection is any potential or physical connection between a potable water source and a source of contamination or pollution. Backflow is the undesirable reverse flow of water, or other substances, through a cross-connection into the public or customer’s water system.

The WA State Department of Health requires that potential cross-connections have a backflow assembly installed to prevent water return into the District’s Water Distribution System. Residential homes with a well, boiler, irrigation or sprinkler system and all commercial properties must have a backflow assembly present to isolate the premises. View WAC 246-290-490 HERE

Backflow assemblies must be tested annually by a certified Backflow Assembly Tester (BAT) and test reports submitted through our online portal, SwiftComply.
