FIx A Leak Week: March 15 - 21, 2010

Did you know that an American home can waste, on average, more than 10,000 gallons of water every year due to running toilets, dripping faucets, and other household leaks? That's enough water to fill a backyard swimming pool.

The Saving Water Partnership, along with the Environmental Protection Agency's WaterSense program are promoting "Fix a Leak Week" from March 15 to 21, 2010, to remind Americans to check their plumbing fixtures, outdoor faucets, and irrigation systems for leaks.

Being handy around the house doesn't have to be difficult. Here are some helpful videos on repairing leaks around your house:

Research shows that about 8 percent of home water is wasted through leaks. Don't pay for water you don't use.

1% Water Conservation Program

Table of Contents
It's your water...what will you save today?

Soos Creek Water & Sewer District supports Seattle Public Utilities effort to implement its 1% Conservation Program. 1% Water Conservation is a regional program of 26 local water providers that help all of us conserve water. The goal of the program is for each of us to reduce our use of water 1% each year for the next ten years. Doing so will help ensure adequate fresh water supplies for the future. Over the next few years, educational programs, financial incentives, and special promotions will be offered to assist individuals and businesses with meeting their 1% Water Conservation goals.

The goal of the 1% program is to encourage everyone in the region to reduce their water use by 1% for each of the next ten years. There are a number of ways to reach the goal of 10% total reduction over ten years.

Many of the actions you can take to conserve are free or low cost. Others, such as buying one of the new low-flow toilets or water efficient washing machines will cost initially, but pay for themselves in a few years through utility savings.

Please call (206) 684-SAVE (684-7283) to request freee information and Fact sheets. The available Fact Sheets will give you more information about the program and ideas of how and where to save...starting today.

March of Dimes

Table of Contents

We all dream of the day when every baby is born healthy. All too often, babies are born too small, premature, or with a serious birth defect that subjects them to a lifetime of medical complications, physical obstacles, pain, and even death.

The March of Dimes is working to change these facts. Since funding the development of the polio vaccine in the 1950s, the mission of the March of Dimes has been to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. The March of Dimes carries out this mission through programs of research, community services, education and advocacy.

On Saturday, April 19, 2008, Soos Creek employee volunteers and their families participated in the March of Dimes Walk for Babies Campaign. All funds raised through this campaign are donated to the March of Dimes. From 1993 through 2008, employee volunteers have raised a total of $26,830.38.

If you would like additional information about the March of Dimes, please contact Marci Oda at (253) 630-9900 Ext. 135.

Donations to the Christmas Fund

Table of Contents
Each year, during the Christmas season, Soos Creek employees sponsor people in our community by donating funds. Last Christmas our employees and their friends donated $2,715 to the program. Because of their generous donations, we were able to sponsor residents of the Talbot Center for Rehabilitaion and Healthcare, along with a local family in our community who experienced extremely difficult times during the holiday season. We would like to recognize our employees for their thoughtfulness, and for showing the true meaning fo caring for others in our community.
